North Yungas, The World's Most Dangerous Roads

North Yungas Road, also known by the nickname Road of Death or Death Road is a road along the 61 to 69 kilometers that connects La Paz to Coroico, Bolivia. This street has become a legend and is known as the world's most dangerous road.

In 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank named this road as the most dangerous road in the world. Within a year, North Yungas could take the life of 200-300 people who passed by. Interestingly, in addition to traffic signs, some places in the North Yungas road is also marked with a cross that indicates where the vehicle falls or accidents.

Meanwhile, South Yungas Road, also known ith name Chulumani Road is known as the most dangerous streets of a second after the North Yungas. This street connects La Paz to Chulumani, at about 64 kilometers.

The road was built in the 1930s during the Chaco War by Paraguayan prisoners. This road is one road that connects the Amazon rainforest region of northern Bolivia or Yungas. The road was first climbed up to 4,650 meters at La Cumbre Pass, then down to 1,200 meters in the town of Coroico. People who passed by could definitely feel the change in climate from cold to windy.

Due to the extreme altitude and way down there, plus the width of the road is only 3.2 meters, most people fail to cross the street safely. Not to mention if coupled with road and weather conditions are muddy, steep, windy, and sometimes foggy, as reported by Planet Oddity (20.09.09).

One of the driving rules that are set in this area is that the driver must take down the outer side of the road and stop when passing. This rule was made so that vehicles can go faster than the stop and go on with more secure. In addition, drivers should move to the left so that they could see the wheels outside and limiting road more clearly.
