Alcatraz, Prison in The Middle of The Sea

Alcatraz is the name of the island is occupied by one of the most famous prison in the world.
Located in the San Francisco Bay, USA, Alcatraz is one of three islands discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Manuel de Ayala, in 1775.
The word "alcatraz" means "pelican" in Spanish. Before being used as a prison, the island was used as a military installation.
In the 1850s, Alcatraz started to work as a military prisoner. This continued until 1933 when Alcatraz management submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Alcatraz is a maximum security prison and is designed to imprison the most dangerous criminals and repeat offenders.
Various films have been made using Alcatraz as a backdrop, although most of the filming was not really in accordance with the actual reality.
Alcatraz has a capacity to accommodate 336 prisoners, but never really fully charged.
One of the myths about Alcatraz is that no one can escape from this prison. Waters around Alcatraz island famous cold with strong currents.

In its history, Alcatraz never memenjaran some famous criminals such as Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, and Arthur "Doc" Barker.
But the number of inmates known only a very small percentage compared to the total 1,576 prisoners who had been detained in the prison.
Alcatraz was finally closed and abandoned in 1963 because it was considered too expensive operasioal costs other than prison.

Unfortunately, vandalism and fires that have occurred make all the Indians were required to move in 1971.
Now, Alcatraz Island turned into a tourist area with more than one million visitors come each year.
