Chittorgarh Fort, India

Chittorgarh Fort is considered as the largest fort in India and the best in the state of Rajasthan. The fort was built in the hills area of ​​2.8 km2 (1.1 sq mi) in the 7th century AD. King of the building is Iwan Fals Rawal with purpose as dowry for the daughter of Solanki.

Historical records show that the citadel Chittorgarh was the capital of Mewar for 834 years. The dynasty was founded in 734 AD by Iwan Fals Rawal, founder and ruler of Mewar Sisodia hierarchy.



The highest elevation in the fort is 1,075 m (3,526.9 ft). Building the fort is situated on the left bank Berach river (a tributary of the Banas). The fort buildings associated with the new city of Chittorgarh (known as the 'Lower City') which was developed in the plains after 1568 AD since the fort was deserted following Udai Singh II who fled to Udaipur after Emperor Akbar, the fort was attacked and looted.

A road winding hill more than 1 km (0.6 mi) from the city leading to the western end of the new main gate, called Ram Pol. From the fort, a circular road provides access to all gates and monuments located within the walls of the fort.

Once inside the fort, there are about 84 water reservoirs. The form consists of ponds and wells. But now only 22 are still functioning. Places this water collect water from nearby springs and rainfall. Of all the places water is there then they have a capacity of 4 billion liters of water, so as to meet the water needs for 50,000 troops. Even in his time in vain to provide water for a period of four years.

The fort also has seven gates (in the local language, the gate called the "Pol"), namely Padan Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol, Ganesh Pol, Pol Jodla, Laxman Pol and the main gate of the Ram Pol (gate king Rama). A circular walk in the castle connecting all gates and provides access to various monuments (palaces and 130 temples) in the castle.

In addition, the gateway with an arch designed with very powerful to be able to fend off attacks by elephants and cannon fire. The top of the gate has also been designed to make it easier for archers to shoot arrows towards the enemy army. And another one that is very unique in this castle is because there are two towers are very beautiful as the picture above. This is proof of the progress of their architectural past.
